Carl Moore, 75 of Murdo, died Saturday, July 7 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be 6-7pm, Tuesday, July 10 at Murdo Methodist Church with a Prayer/Masonic Service at 7:oopm, Tuesday at the Church. Services will be 10:30am, Wednesday, July 11 at the Murdo Methodist Church with burial at Murdo Cemetery
Carl Jay Moore was born July 12, 1936 at Vivian, SD to Lyle and Grace (Dunlap) Moore. He graduated from Vivian High School in 1955. After graduation, he serve in the Army until he was honorably discharged in 1957. Carl then attended Southern State University in Springfield, SD and graduated with a drafting degree in 1959. He met Glenna Riha in college and they married in 1960 in Fairfax, SD. Carl went to work for Hilton Building Center in Presho, SD and in 1966 they moved to Murdo to run the Hilton Building Center there. They bought the business in 1972, now named Moore Building Center.
Carl was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge since 1969, the Lion’s Club since 1966 and was a Shriner for many years. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, a SD Retailer Lumberman’s board member, and had been on the City Council and school board. Carl was the SD Lumberman of the year in 1997 and Carl and Glenna were SD Retail Lumberman’s Association Lumberman of the year in 2011.
He is survived by his wife Glenna, three sons: Rick and wife Valerie of Chamberlain, and their children: Katelyn and Sara, Dennis and wife Julie of Murdo, and their children: Karlee and Carson and Kevin and wife Joni of Murdo, and their children: Lillian, Seiney and Harrison; two sisters: Wilma Ahlers of Flandreau and Lila Mae Christian and husband Harvey of Draper; sister-in-law Jean Gray and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela Jean; his parents; sister Maxine Moore; brother Wayne Moore and brother-in-law Jerry Ahlers.
