Harriet Brown, 93 of Pierre, died Monday, May 7, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 11 at First United Methodist Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery
Harriet was born in Onida to Henry and Ona (Nelson) Chamberlain. She grew up in Onida and Pierre, graduating from Pierre High School in 1936.
After graduating high school Harriet went to work for Mr. Freytag at the Miller Ben Franklin Store. While working there she would meet her husband Will.
Harriet and Will were united in marriage on September 15, 1940 in Miller. They then moved to Pierre where they purchased the Ben Franklin Store, which they ran for over 50 years. Also they expanded with other stores throughout South Dakota and one in Idaho.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star and Bridge Club. Harriet enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, but most of all she loved bragging about her grandchildren.
Harriet is survived by her son, Bob (Cathy); daughter Susan (Jerry) and four grandchildren: Christopher, Tony, Katy and Jesse (Marissa).
She was preceded in death by her husband Will; her parents; brother Kenneth Chamberlain and sister Frances Bloom.
